Fashion Scoop: Draya Michele’s Mint Swim Expands into Plus Sizes, How NYFW Found Their New Venues, and Delia*s Isn’t Gone Forever
- After introducing herself to the world on VH1’s Basketball Wives:
LA, Draya Michele launched two fashion lines. And though she’s no Marc
Jacobs or Louis Vuitton, the starlet has carved out her own niche in the
market. In a recent interview, she announces an expansion into
plus-sizes for her Mint Swim line as well as Fitness and Workout for the
Fine *ss Girls line. (StyleBlazer)
- In case you ever doubted that Project Runway was just a
bunch of smoke and mirrors, a former contestant is here to set you
straight. It’s likely that if you remember Jack Mackenroth from the
show, it’s because he came out as being HIV positive during season 4.
Well in a recent interview Mackenroth says the show is nothing but
clever editing. “The show is a sham, the judging is totally fake and
they basically decide who they want to eliminate and edit the footage
to make the viewer agree,” Mackenroth said. “But the work was real and the other designers I met were amazing. I’m still friends with many of them.” (The Fashion Spot)
- In case you haven’t heard, the new NYFW venues have been confirmed.
This September, the fashion flock will be headed to Skylight Moynihan
Station and Skylight Clarkson Square. The funniest part of it all,
happens to be how IMG decided on the venues. Apparently after seeing
photos of the spaces in the New York Times, the company called Jennifer
Blumin at the Skylight Group. “Obviously we thought it would be
[about fashion week], but not totally clear and so we get on this call
and he’s like, ‘You look great in your picture; as long as the picture’s
great, that’s all that matters. You look fantastic, let’s do a deal,’
and left it to us to figure out what that looked like and how to do it
and we did, we figured it out,” she said of the call. Seems simple enough. (Fashionista)
- We heard a few of these rumbles last year, but it seems they have
returned with a vigor. If reports are to be believed, J. Crew is falling
out of touch because of Jenna Lyons’s over sized personality and the
brand’s obsession with her quirky style. Old fans say they go to the
brand for classics, which have gotten lost amongst fur scarves that
never end and neon feathered hems that aren’t fit for middle America.
Are you still a fan of J.Crew. (NY Post)
- Though we mourned the passing of Delias a few months ago, it seems
the 90s brand has been given a second go at life. Postings on the
brand’s Instagram indicate that the store will be making a return this
fall as an e-commerce venture replete with a mailed magazine cum
catalog. It’s a smart move, with their target demo now primarily using
online for purchasing, but only time will tell if it’ll be successful. (Refinery29)
