A Look Back: Favorite Met Gala Get-Ups

teewhy-hive.blogspot.co.uk
Monday marks the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala, an evening dedicated to all that is fashion (and fashionable). Dubbed the Oscars of the East Coast, the Met Gala is a place where celebrities, socialites, and fashion designers mingle about in the best and boldest ensembles. This year’s theme, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, will certainly bring out the creativity in both gown and glam. But before we devour Monday’s Met mayhem, let’s flashback to some of my favorite looks of Met Galas’ past.

How Prince Transcended The Fashion Industry By Challenging Views Of Heteronormativity

**Prince had multitude alias, including: Alexander Nevermind, Jamie Starr, Joey Coco and The Artist Formerly Known As Prince. I will be referring to Prince as all of them in this article.**
The death of Prince was not only the end of a creative genius but also the passing of a true style icon. Prince was a member of the beau monde without even trying. He didn’t have to partner with designers, consistently post his outfits, or be layered in luxury fashion to make a statement or change the way we view clothing and style.

Drake Reveals He No Longer Speaks to Nicki Minaj, Talks ''Genuine'' Connection With Rihanna

Rihanna, Drake, Nicki Minaj
Drake just dropped his fourth studio album, Views, and along with his continued success in music, he's seen his life take different twists and turns, both personally and with other people.
For example, though at one point in their careers they were collaborating on back-to-back albums, Drake says he no longer has a close relationship with Nicki Minaj.
"I don't really talk to Nicki. Another person I have a lot of love for," he revealed while chatting with Beats 1's Zane Lowe on Thursday night.

Welcome to the New School of Sunglasses

ESC: Sunglasses
Sunglasses are underrated.
They really don't get the praise they deserve when it comes to their incredible ability to make or break any outfit. Ex: You could be wearing overalls and sneakers (read: a very casual outfit), but when you slip on a pair of square Célines, instantly, you look like the most powerful person in the world.
This, however, was not always the case (which is probably why you don't yet, fully, appreciate them).
While simultaneously dropping mad, up-to-date, sunglass knowledge on you, we're also going to contrast today's trendy styles with their less trendy counterparts of the past. (You're going to freak when you see Britney Spears' utterly-'90s aviators.) Time to scroll.

‘Lemonade’ Is Therapy For Black Women Who’ve Been Cheated On And Gone Back

Beyonce gazes off into the tall brown grass and mouths the words, “I’m praying to catch you whispering/ I’m praying you catch me listening.” The lyrics hit me like an anvil smashing into Wile E. Coyote. I close the blinds and lean back on my headboard.
In another scene, she leans over the edge of the building and plunges to the ground that dissolves into a body of water leading to the next sequence. Damn Beyonce, I needed a warning.
Until its premiere Saturday night, we were unsure of what to expect from Beyonce’s sixth album. Would it be another visual album like her previous release? Would Yonce make an appearance or would we meet another of Bey’s alter egos? Yonce didn’t make a cameo. Instead, we were introduced to Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, the woman who also has insecurities and thought about wearing another bitch’s skin after her man cheated. Have you ever felt that low? If not, Lemonade ain’t for you.

Chatty Cathy: Are You Driving Your Co-Workers Crazy By Being The Office Chatterbox?

A social butterfly is usually accused of being a “Chatty Cathy” when she doesn’t know when to cut the convo short. If your coworkers are truly busy, they don’t always have time to engage in meaningless chitchat at the water cooler or in the middle of drafting a time-sensitive email. Ask yourself these 3 questions to help you determine if you’re the office chatterbox.

Game of Thrones Premiere Ends With Fairytale Twist We Did Not See Coming

Game of Thrones, GOT, Season 6
So has Game of Thrones secretly just been an extra messed up Disney fairytale this whole time?
Tonight's long-awaited season six premiere ended with quite the evil queen twist when Melisandre (Carice van Houten) pulled a Mother Gothel (from Tangled, y'all) by removing her stone choker (along with literally everything else she was wearing) and revealing herself to be an extremely old, wrinkly woman with long scraggly hair. Surprise! Betcha didn't see that coming!
While we totally did not see that coming, maybe we actually should have. She's worn that choker in every episode—since way before they were cool again—and we should know how things in fantasy worlds work. Giant fancy stones are hardly ever just there for purely decoration, and young, beautiful women with terrifying witchy powers are hardly ever what they first appear to be.

The Ladylike Quotient

teewhy-hive.blogspot.co.uk
What do you get when you combine dignity and humanity with a bit of compassion, then divide it by elegance, style, and grace? You arrive at the Ladylike Quotient! It’s a kind of elusive quality that some women seem to have that allows them to journey through life’s triumphs – and inevitable tragedies – with a regal air or demeanor. Not to be confused with arrogance or perfection, the ladylike quotient is defined by a woman’s perspective on various matters and the behaviors she chooses to exemplify on a consistent basis.
