Show Review: Gucci Spring 2015.

Milan fashion week started off with a bang as Frida Giannini exhaled her latest offering for Gucci’s spring collection.  Giannini deviated slightly from her usual “sultry-yet-refined” aesthetic by incorporating masculine tailoring with a 60’s vibe into what we saw from her for fall.  This go ’round, she offered dainty silhouettes, but once again, for the woman with a heart that beats to the excitement of a different era.  Giannini opted for more relaxed fits and some deep, Earthy tones in her 70’s influenced spring assortment: a bell-bottom jean here, an all-denim ensemble there.  But we’re not complaining.  They all say fashion is one big circle of decennary exploration.  And Giannini, as per usual, got it right; taking us on a ride to the disco-era.
A segment of all white looks sauntered down the runway first.  Strange, at first, especially for a brand known for its use of elaborate prints and rich hues.  But we got it.  Spring is a season filled with unexpected events.  What’s pure and untainted at inception can get a little colorful toward the end.  Boatneck dresses and kimono sleeves were perfect vessels for executing this sentiment.  And braided belts, sexy snakeskin sandals and boots punctuated these looks perfectly.







A few pieces offered denser fabrics and textures.  Fur, for spring?  Groundbreaking.  No… really.  Where most designers would send an anorak or a classic trench down a catwalk, Giannini took things up a notch with sumptuous suedes and fantastic furs in brooding shades of brown and burgundy.  While it may take some getting used to, global warming is actually a thing.  Giannini may be on to something here.




 Sexy wasn’t skimmed on with this collection, despite the less constricted shapes for spring.  Giannini delivered a few looks in the most passion-inducing shade of red I’ve ever seen.  Think of a glass of vino rosso that you never want to end.  Dresses with slits up to there were just enough to leave exactly what you want to the imagination.  And Giannini hits the nail on the head every time.  Not to mention a delectable trenchcoat and suede boots that will have ladies wanting to leave the house in 30 degree weather.




 Despite her western flair during the beginning of this season’s collection, Giannini took a trip to the Far East, and invited us along.  Silk pieces with eastern influences, i.e. florals, flying cranes, and mini-obi belts, dominated a few looks in the vein of gorgeous daytime wear.




Denim, and lots of it.  The trend of the season was revamped when Giannini took the wheel.  Knee-length dresses and shin-length trousers were the essentials for her iteration.





A stunning selection of evening dresses reiterated her being inspired by Asian culture.  Gorgeous printed halter dresses in silk and sequins are just what the doctor ordered.



 All-in-all, Giannini never fails.  Without a doubt, the biggest names in Hollywood will be clamoring to get their perfectly manicured hands on a few pieces.  Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, just to name a few.  And if Giannini is still on the train to revisit the next decade, I’m sure her take on the 80’s will have us waiting with bated breath.  Heaven knows it was a decade of unforgivable fashion faux pas, and she definitely has the right touch to do something about it.
