5 Ways To Get Rid Of Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet. Ahhh, those pesky little age lines around the corner of your eyes that, no matter how much concealer you apply, just won’t go away. The bad news is that they get worse with age (and sun exposure), but the good news is that there are a plethora of ways to fix them, and even a few tricks to prevent new lines around your eyes from forming.
We chatted with Dr. Jessica Wu, Los Angeles-based celebrity dermatologist and author of Feed Your Face, on a few simple and (mostly) easy ways to prevent those pesky wrinkles from forming.  Here are five ways to get rid of dreaded crow’s feet lines:

1. Use a retinol product. Retinol is pretty much the gold standard when it comes to anything and everything anti-aging, so using products with retinol (both around your eyes and on your face) is definitely a no-brainer. We love Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Eye Cream ($18), a fantastic drugstore option, or Glow by Dr. Brandt Revitalizing Retinol Eye Cream ($55). Both products have time-released retinol that smoothes fine lines and wrinkles quickly.
2. Use a prescription retinoid. “If you’ve tried an over-the-counter retinol and want to graduate to the stronger stuff, ask your doctor whether a prescription-strength retinoid cream (such as Renova) would be right for you,” explains Dr. Wu. “These products have been proven to build collagen and increase skin cell turnover, to help the thin skin in this area to look smoother and less crepey.”

3. Wear sunglasses. It may seem silly (and, ok, it kind of is) but wearing sunglasses actually helps prevent crow’s feet in two ways: One, it shields the skin around your eyes from the sun and, in turn, that will prevent new wrinkles from forming (just make sure they have real UV filters in the lenses). And two, wearing sunglasses prevents you from squinting, one of the biggest causes of crow’s feet.

4. Get Botox. “If your crow’s feet get deeper when you smile or squint, Botox may help soften them,” says Dr. Wu. “It works by relaxing overactive, wrinkle-causing muscles; with less movement, the skin smoothens out. Results last about four months and, with repeated treatments, the area continues to improve.”
5. Use a daily eye cream with SPF. By now you’re probably already on board with the whole retinol eye cream game but why not add a little extra protection during the day? An eye cream with sun protection?! Yes, please. We love Shiseido Sun Protection Eye Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 34 ($33) and Supergoop! Advanced SPF 37 Anti-Aging Eye Cream ($45) for an extra boost of wrinkle-fighting power. Long story short, block sun damage around your eyes and you will definitely have less wrinkles.
