The publishing industry never goes a week without a shakeup! The latest news come out of Teen Vogue, where founding Editor-in-Chief Amy Astley is leaving the publication after over thirteen years at its helm. Elaine Welteroth—the glossy’s current Beauty and Health Director—has been promoted to Editor in Chief of the magazine:
As a black woman and one of the youngest editors in Condé Nast history, Welteroth is making history! She will split the top editorial duties at the title with Phillip Picardi who is the current Digital Editorial Director and Marie Suter, who will keep her role as Creative Director. Here’s what Anna Wintour said about the trio in a statement on Fashionista:
“Elaine, Marie and Phil are fearlessly at the forefront, inspiring young trendsetters with their sophisticated take on emerging fashion, beauty and pop culture, and they will lead Teen Vogue to the next phase of its success. This team has thoroughly embraced the endless potential of social media and new platforms, and their understanding of the most effective way to use them to connect with audiences, embodies what it means to be an editor today.”

As for Astley, she will be moving to Architectural Digest as its new Editor-in-Chief. Wintour only had great things to say about her new appointment and her future at the design-focused magazine:
“Amy’s leadership and creativity can be seen in the success of Teen Vogue, which she has built into the influential source of emerging fashion, beauty and culture for young women everywhere. Amy also has spent a great deal of her career immersed in art and design, including five years at House & Garden where she also served as the de facto personal interior stylist for Alexander Liberman, which has given her a deep knowledge and lifelong passion for design that will lift Architectural Digest to new heights.”

Very much looking forward to what comes out of the magazine and the site in the coming months under its new direction.
