At times, life can get a bit crazy. Even when you find yourself on a sure path of success, there constant demands that challenge us to change, grow, and embrace the unknown. As a woman who wears a lot of hats (wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, best friend, businesswoman etc.) I know the feeling all too well. We often envy others perceiving that their lot in life is somehow easier. But underneath all of our obvious differences and distinctions, we are all universally the same.
We each have passions, dreams, fears, and aspirations that converge at life’s unpredictable intersections and at times cause us to feel as if we are speeding out of control. I would love to give you some profound cathartic anecdote to deal with every hurdle, but the longer I live I’ve come to realize that often times the most important thing you can do in life is hang on. You may not always feel strong, capable or even committed to its varying tasks, but the mere act of holding on and hanging in there is a form of winning.
The world is unpredictable and life for all of us can at times can become overwhelming. It’s at these moments that we must persevere until we get to the other side of the present challenge. There is a remarkable liberty that comes only from refusing to quit.
I leave you this week with the lyrics of a beautiful song composed by the legendary singer Donny Hathaway:
“Hang on to the world as it spins around. Just don’t let the spin get you down. Things are moving fast. Hold on tight and you will last. Keep your self respect, your manly pride. Get yourself in gear, keep your stride. Never mind your fears! Brighter days will soon be here. Take it from me, someday we’ll all be free.”
