Jourdan Dunn recently spoke on fashion’s ridiculous tokenism problem to Miss Vogue, questioning why designers are always given a pat on the back for putting a single black girl in their shows to walk in majority-white casts. Fellow member of the Yoncé tribe Chanel Iman weighed in on the issue to The Edittalking about how black models like herself, Jourdan, and Joan Smalls are often pitted against each other for jobs: “All three of us models are very successful in our careers, but because in the fashion industry ‘there’s only one black girl allowed’, they’ve made us compete to be that one girl,” she said, adding how happy she was that the Beyoncé gig afforded all three of them some time in the spotlight. ”Beyoncé allowed us to show the world that we don’t have to fight against each other. She gave us the chance to see that we are far more powerful together.” (The Edit)
