Will Lupita Nyong’o Be The Female Lead In ‘Star Wars: Episode VII?’
Lupita Nyong’o took home the Oscar for best supporting actress earlier this month, and now she has her eyes set on a leading role.
According to sources, the 12 Years A Slave breakout star met with producer J.J. Abrams to discuss the female lead in Star Wars: Episode VII a few weeks ago. “Because of the secrecy, it is unclear which role it could be,” The Hollywood Reporter details. “One possibility is that of a descendent of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which has been described as a non-Caucasian role.”
If cast, Star Wars: Episode VII will be Nyong’o’s first step into the sci-fi world. The forthcoming film, scheduled to hit theaters in summer 2015, is expected to center around the iconic trio of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo. Abrams is reportedly planning to shoot from mid-May to September at London’s Pinewood studios.
Although no casting has been set in stone, THR adds that Jesse Plemons, Ed Speleers, Adam Driver and John Boyega are also in talks for the multi-million dollar project.
