Fashion and art have collided more times than we count and the two industries are coming together yet again through alice + olivia.
The contemporary brand that is a favorite of stars like Beyoncé, Eva
Longoria, and Jessica Alba has collaborated with Jean-Michel Basquiat’s
estate and the CFDA for a capsule collection that will go toward the
CFDA’s cause of promoting young talent:
The assortment was featured in the brand’s recently-debuted Resort
2017 offerings and includes several of Basquiat’s signatures including
his iconic, graffiti and street-art inspired designs and golden crowns.
Some of the art works referenced include “Replicas” 1983, “In Italian”
from the same year, and “Panel of Experts” 1982, among others.
Of the capsule collection, alice + olivia CEO and Creative Director Stacy Bendet said, “Jean-Michel
Basquiat is one of my favorite artists. This partnership is exciting
for me as it is very reflective of my brand and our continued
collaboration with artists. It is also wonderful to be able to raise
funds for the CFDA and support their ongoing initiatives within our
industry that develop new talent.” In April of last year, Bendet
kicked off her first artist collection by partnering with
Spanish-American painter Domingo Zapata.
CFDA President and CEO Steven Kolb also weighed in: “We could not
be more appreciative of Stacey Bendet and her work to help us in our
cause to advance up-and-coming fashion talent. Thanks to this
initiative, the support we will be receiving from alice + olivia is of
great value to our organization.”
The collection hits stores and online in November 2016, with 50% of the proceeds from select items going to the CFDA.
