Matthew Williamson Fall 2014.
While Matthew Williamson was staging his Fall 2014 show, a little event called the 2014 BAFTAs was happening in close proximity with some of the world’s most stylish stars walking the red carpet. What could’ve been the worst scheduling blunder in LFW history had little effect on Williamson, with fashionable stars like Olivia Palermo and Ashley Madekwe in attendance. The brand presented some red carpet-worthy looks itself, this time with Danielle Scutt at the artistic helm.
Check out more below:
The models strutted down a black and white starburst carpet, inspired by 70′s interior design. Some pieces were an exact match with it from a leg-baring mini skirt to a premiere-ready sequin gown. The étoile bursts did in fact continue with a less dizzying baby blue/red and white print on high-neck frocks, off-the-shoulder blouses continuing the seventies vibe, fur-trim numbers, and dainty skirt suits. Lace-up boots added a functional vibe to the sometimes ostentatious ensembles.
Embellishment was also on high with oversized gemstones accenting LBDs, a keyhole-detailed dress and a party-appropriate top offset with peplum, a sheer number on Samantha Archibald that was certainly not for the faint of heart, and burnout dresses that lent a casual air to the offerings despite their added doses of glitz and glamour.
My favorite looks in the selection belonged to the eveningwear segment. Though only the aforementioned starburst sequin gown had Oscar or Cannes Film Festival Opening and Closing Ceremony potential, Williamson made a really strong case for parties and photocalls. The Noisettes star Shingai Shoniwa could do a sheer, star print gown justice while a fur polka dot print piece would be right up Rita Ora’s alley.
