VFiles staged its second runway show for New York Fashion Week, showcasing up-and-coming designers and continuing their commitment to sprinkling new talent into the fashion industry. For its latest Fall 2014 catwalk collection, it featured looks from three such brands: ASSK, Melitta Baumeister, and Hyein Seo.

First in the lineup were the seasonal designs from Paris-based brand ASSK, founded by Australian designers Agatha Kowalewski and Sarah Schofield. Their streetwear-inspired pieces were right in line with VFiles’s aesthetic, brimming with printed knits, bomber jackets, and on-trend cropped numbers, topped off by snapback caps. The patterns were exceptional, boasting bare tree branches reminiscent of autumn and SIM cards, among other trinkets. The athletic vibe was driven home with water bottles languidly hanging from the models’ shoulders.

Second up on the roster was Parsons fashion MA grad Melitta Baumeister with her structural selections, only created in the classic color palette of black and white. The larger-than-life wares were chock full of interesting textures including silicone, vinyl, and sporty chic neoprene. Boxy silhouettes reigned supreme: not the most flattering, but certainly fashion-forward.

Last in the show was the 80′s horror film-inspired collection from South Korean designer Hyein Seo who is currently working on obtaining her master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. The influence was blatant, with “fear” text dripping from drop-waist dresses, hair accessories, chokers, and cropped fuzzy toppers. Though a bit daunting and bold, Seo’s designs were definitely functional and pretty cool if you ask me. A dress with nylon bomber sleeves and a fur ghoul graphic was as modern as it gets, while an oversized red bomber jacket has already solidified its place high atop my must-have list for the season.
