‘The Shield’ Actor Michael Jace Murdered Wife In Front Of Their Children.
Actor Michael Jace, best known for his role as Detective Lowe on the “The Shield,” was arrested on homicide charges after he shot his wife, April Jace, to death in front of their two children then called the police around 8:30pm to report the crime. “I shot my wife,” he told police dispatchers. April was found dead by police when they arrived at the couple’s Hyde Park neighborhood home.
We are deeply disturbed by footage on TMZ that shows a Jace appearing calm and collected as police questioned him at his home.
The motive behind the grisly shooting is being investigated as domestic violence. ‘It looks to have started as a domestic-related incident,’ Officer Sara Faden told the Los Angeles Times. Michael and April celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary just last month.
Jace’s bail was set at $1 million.
We are perplexed at the increase of domestic violence occurrences that have recently been brought to light. Actor Columbus Short allegedly threatened to kill himself and his wife. He was later fired from “Scandal.” R&B singer The Dream was also arrested for allegedly assaulting his baby’s mother while she was pregnant.
An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year and almost one-third of female homicide victims that are reported in police records are killed by an intimate partner (NCADV). It’s a shame that women are being beaten and killed at the hands of someone who claims to love them.
Whoopi Goldberg came under fire recently for statements that went against traditional standards of how we view violence against women. “If someone hits you, you have the right to hit them back,” she said in the video posted on her Facebook page. (Watch it, here).
With all the recent cases of DV, what are your thoughts on this horrible crime?
