Alexis Mabille Fall 2015.
“Chic meets street, no limit,” expressed the show notes for Alexis Mabille’s Fall 2015 collection — an assortment marked by quite a few curves and spins with athletic-inspired gear gone night-appropriate as the inspiration.
Tracksuits and menswear-inspired suiting were combined with leggings boasting side stripes, shirtdresses layered over twist-detailed sweatshirts, and double-breasted coats in sweatsuit styling. Fur and lace-up sandals anchored the ensembles in femininity and luxury.
Lace lent a sultry flair in blush on a pair of expertly-tailored trousers, a sheer black sweatshirt perfect for weekends or layered under a blazer, and a wrap skirt married with a cozy moto jacket.
Mabille is known for drama, but there were some truly functional get-ups here that could work for the more pared-down side of a modern-day woman’s wardrobe. A stud-accented white shirt and two-tone chambray wrap skirt could easily be worn with high-top sneakers or over-the-knee-boots, while a navy coat and breezy shirtdress in the aforementioned on-trend cloth was simple and polished to a T.
Lamé spoke specifically to evening, but didn’t quite pack the punch needed for a red carpet or stylish cocktail party. Funnily enough, a navy tuxedo dress with a cinched waist would be the best bets for the celeb set, as well as the few crop top combinations in the mix.
Mabille’s collections effortlessly radiate sensuality and power, but his wares here made us a bit uncertain of his aim. Though there were a lot of wearable pieces at play, at times, the end result felt a bit erratic — hanging between composure and contrivance.
