Fashion Scoop: Ebony Says Black Media Is Shortchanged On Ads, Gisele Bundchen Retires From Runway, Stars Boycott Dolce & Gabbana.

  • According to Johnson publishing Company CEO Desiree Rogers, advertisers pay lower rates to African American-oriented media than they do for other types of media.  In fact, it was this discrepancy that forced Ebony to not print their March issue — the issue will now be lumped in with their April issue.  Since the end of last year, Rogers began to negotiate with advertisers about new rates for 2015.  Those negotiations have only just closed, with Rogers going on record to say “You need a certain amount of advertising for an issue.” Rogers went on to say that Ebony now has “the same market rates as any other magazine. It would be great to get the support of other black media” to challenge lower rates advertisers pay to African-American-oriented media. (Maynard Institute)

  • Though Lucky Magazine left Conde Nast to launch their new e-commerce platform, it seems that another Conde Nast publication is launching e-commerce while staying in house. Glamour magazine is looking to debut shopping first in the US and UK before branching out into other locations. Expect the platform to launch before the year’s end. (Racked)

  • Looks like Gisele is preparing to hang up her heels at the age of 34.  Though she’ll continue appearing in editorials and ad campaigns, the Victoria Secret Angel has announced that Sao Paulo Week will be her last fashion week on the runway come next month. Check out the Colcci show on April 20th if you want to see it. (The Fashion Spot)

  • Though designers Stefano Gabbana and Domencio Dolce have seemingly evaded their tax problems, the two got themselves in a mess of trouble when they condemned any family that wasn’t a “traditional family.” This, by their definition, includes families that are a product of IVF or that include same-sex couples. Elton John and others have widely criticized the pair with a #BoycottDolceGabbana cause to which the designers have responded with a non-apology of sorts saying they were only speaking personally and meant no offense.
