This morning, the world was dismayed to hear about the death of Philando Castile, another young black man murdered in cold blood by overzealous police officers.
Just yesterday, we all cringed as we watched Alton Sterling, a man selling CD’s in front of a Triple S Food Mart in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, restrained, and shot at point blank range. To see the video of his murder was enraging; to see his son wail at his father’s press conference was heartbreaking.
Alton Sterling and Philando Castile are now joining the ranks of Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Freddie Gray, Eric Garner, Akai Gurley, Walter Scott, Laquan McDonald, and many more who have been victims of police brutality in recent years. We can only ask: WHEN WILL THIS END?

I can no longer stay silent and I can no longer continue with business as usual. Not today.

Philando Castile
In honor of the deaths of all these innocent lives, i will take a day of silence while we mourn and try to figure out what we can do to effect real change in the world.

I know my silence can’t bring back Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Freddie Gray, Eric Garner, Akai Gurley, Walter Scott, and Laquan McDonald. But i want my readers to know that i stand with you in the struggle and will use my platform to spread awareness and shine a light on police brutality, injustice, and obstructions of justice and civil rights.
I hope you stand with me.
Love & Light,
