The SuperGirl story, much like its predecessor, Superman, tells the tale of the most unlikely, unassuming female protagonist who (despite her awkward position in society) transforms into a shining heroine in crucial moments when her back is against the wall or some innocent person finds themselves in a state of distress. In a method similar to Clark Kent, Linda Lee removes her everyday attire and position, taking on whatever crisis she is facing, with her amazing powers to get the job done.
This past week Serena Williams made history with the most US Open Grand Slam wins ever. She, for quite some time has been considered royalty among unique sect of women who despite overwhelming obstacles, unfair scrutiny and criticism manage to defy high standing odds. We are overwhelmingly proud of her and women like her; many of whom face equally challenging delimas without ever receiving public recognition should they succeed. You may be reading this article now and fall under either category but in my book whether public achiever or private, aLloyd such women deserve celebration.
We may not ever leap from buildings in a single bound, possess x-ray vision, or exhibit the ability to move faster than a speeding bullet, but, every single day, we demonstrate superhuman abilities! Our strength can be seen in the miraculous achievements of childbirth and motherhood. It is exemplified in the many ways we outperform around the world despite gross gender related disparities and discrimination. Our remarkable strength and resilience is certainly evident in the many ways we are somehow bounce back from trauma, abuse, and personal tragedy.
I don’t care who you are or where you came from, every woman in her own right, is in some way a miracle. Still, today in some places in the world, simply being born a girl can be cause for mutilation or even worse, being put to death. We survive and even thrive despite daunting odds. We love extravagantly, nurture tenderly, and passionately bring to fruition so much beauty, meaning, and purpose in the world. The world olympics displayed globally our ability to exceed goals and expectations. Often times we do these things whether our efforts are celenrated or not. So if you’re a woman reading this article today, I salute you for being super; SuperGirl, superwoman, and most of all supernatural in your own unique way.
