The Barbershop is back in business. Thirteen years since the original film, Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Anthony Anderson, and Eve return to Calvin’s Barbershop in Southside Chicago in Barbershop: The Next Cut, the third installment in the franchise. The first trailer has hit the net and features the old gang, with some new additions including Common, Tyga, and Nicki Minaj. This time around, the women move into the boys club, and sparks fly.
Nicki plays a sassy hairdresser named Draya, who is a potential romantic rival to Eve’s character, Terri. According to director Malcolm D. Lee, Nicki fit right in and was open to feedback from veteran cast members.
“Whatever suggestions Cedric and Cube had—whether it was for me or any newcomer to the movie—they were always about making the movie better,” Lee told EW. “I really appreciated, and I think Nicki did too. She’s a star in her own right. Here she is part of an ensemble, but she fell right in line with how we were going to make this movie and make it as good as we can.”
The previous two films, 2002’s Barbershop and 2004’s Barbershop 2: Back in Business, grossed a combined $140 million at the worldwide box office.
Barbershop: The Next Cut hits theaters April 15.
