Many young ones across the nation dream of becoming a Disney Star.
The twinkling excitement in the eyes of these pint sized professionals
as they dance their little hearts out is enough to leave tiny onlookers
running to their parents with hopes of doing what their idols do on the
small screen. In this week’s edition of Throwback Thursdays, we examine
how one of Disney’s standouts transitioned from tween acclaim to
becoming a red carpet heavyweight as the years progressed. That’s
right, Zendaya! Today is all about you. And what better way to highlight this leading lady than on her 20th birthday?
Ever since her introduction to the Hollywood tween scene, Zendaya
began to “shake it up” with her style always reflecting where she is in
her career. In her early teens, she was partial to frothy frocks and
printed pieces. Day dresses layered with denim jackets accessorized by
her winning smile also graced red carpets and award shows.
As
the years went by, her style evolved, especially after connecting with
noted celebrity fashion stylist, Law Roach. The array of colors,
patterns and stripes worn by the lengthy beauty knows no bounds.
Colorblocked coats, curve hugging body con skirts, and glitzy, tailored
separates often set her a bit above the rest in our eyes and placed her
on the style radar of many.
As far as award show gowns go, Zendaya knocks it out of the park each
and every time as her wares cascade along her frame. The most
memorable? Her 2015 Oscars Vivienne Westwood ivory goddess gown which
she styled with faux locs. Why so memorable you ask? Well, after
unsavory comments were made about her hair, the then 18 year old took an
applause worthy stance against said comments and reminded us all that
our black hair is good enough and always will be. Whether straight and
long, braided, or cut into a blunt bob, she slays, nonetheless and isn’t
defined by any hairstyle.
Since then, the glamor hasn’t ceased. From Fausto Puglisi to custom Michael Kors at last and this year’s Met Gala, respectively, and Marchesa
at this year’s Golden Globes, Zendaya wields such grace and fashion
savvy to be the muse for some pretty huge blue-chip designers.
When
it comes to casual looks, she trades in her sky high designer heels for
comfy sneakers and boots. Gowns are swapped for distressed jeans and
cool, patterned jackets to elevate her already relatable steeze.
All-in-all, Zendaya’s star is far from flickering out. This award-winning actress, singer, dancer, model, shoe designer AND Covergirl is well on her way to cementing her status in Tinseltown. And i hope to be there to adore and capture every noteworthy fashion moment. So join me in raises my glass (of water… one more year before the champagne bottles pop) in wishing Zendaya the happiest of birthdays today, with more success, style, and slaydom in the years to come!
