Filmmaker David Lynch provided the backdrop for Kenzo’s Fall 2014 collection, after design duo Carol Lim and Humberto Leon were inspired by his works for the brand’s Pre-Fall 2014 and Menswear Fall 2014 lineups. He lent his talents to the soundtrack, a film screen that discharged smoke, a runway that twisted and turned through the audience, and an oversized head sculpture that produced a feeling of uneasiness, with its mouth agape.

The designs were brimming with Lynchian references including surreal imagery, machinery motifs, and warm molten hues. Peplum turtlenecks and pleated skirts were covered in metallic tools, while varying shades of orange covered cropped jackets and platform boots.
Prints were bold with dizzying zigzags and waves on Fall-perfect outerwear, pieced trousers, and thigh-grazing skirts.
Proportions were exaggerated with full skirts layered over patterned suits: surely not for the faint of heart but a great way to get wear out of a slew of your favorite designs for the season.
Though a seemingly minor detail, it was nice to see a slew of looks worn with tights — truly grounding the selection in real-time wear.
Kenzo has a way of laying it on thick when it comes to pattern play, texture, and styling, but some of the more simplistic looks here will resonate with those fashionistas who believe that less is indeed more.
The pieces that will resonate with the globe’s “It” girls and the brand’s throngs of fans will be the collection’s punchy knits in bright shades, embellishment, and hard-to-miss prints. The house’s logo toppers have been a retail hit for a few seasons now and those shown here will surely follow in their footsteps.
