Emilio Pucci Fall 2015.
Peter Dundas said farewell to Emilio Pucci after heading creative direction for the house six years ago. Since his arrival, Dundas has showcased his knowledge of the house’s history with every collection: paying homage to the vibrant patterns and feminine silhouettes Pucci has become renowned for. But Dundas injected scores of modern flair and construction during his tenure. And this season, he stuck to his guns. Those guns came out blazing, to say the least.
This season’s assortment featured a surprising amount of black and white separates: a slight departure from the hypnotic prints we’ve all come to love the brand for. But a welcome one it was. His inspiration was attributed to the clothes his mother, who is a violinist, would wear when performing.
Despite the few dainty options that sauntered down the runway, a Pucci collection would be remiss in not presenting a few looks without the necessary panache? Sexy sequined mini dresses with matching patterned boots dominated quite a few looks the likes of Nicki Minaj and Kris Jenner could easily fall in love with
A selection of sexy striped dresses made a scintillating debut in shades of black and oxblood, catering to the inner party girl of many. Dundas’ affinity for rugby was the driving force behind this segment, reinforcing fashion’s obsession with interweaving masculine and feminine elements.
A dazzling display of outerwear options were offered this season. Floor-grazing, bedazzled capes and fun fur coats were on the manifest for Pucci: Dundas remaining steadfast in his mission to create beautiful, functional pieces.
Dundas culminated his assemblage with a slew of jersey dresses submerged in celestial and astrological references. One could say watching Joan Smalls conquer the catwalk in her Leo iteration was a little slice of Heaven.
Dundas’ departure from Pucci may have been bittersweet, but he went out with a big bang (pun intended). After being at the helm for so long, the shift, though imminent, was poignant above all else. Dundas made this one personal with a brilliant overflow of sentiment. We’ve gotten a chance to peek into the heart of a designer who left an indelible mark on an industry the subsequent creative director for the brand will have a hard time erasing.
What say you to Pucci’s latest?
