How to Keep Curls in Your Hair—Even in the Heat

ESC: Jordana Brewster
Real talk: Wearing long hair down in oppressive heat is killer. And don't even think about curling it—they'll never last!
That is…until you read this.

Jordana Brewster's luscious locks are giving us major motivation to brave the sweat and frizz that may ensue with wearing this style. Lucky for us, the man behind her gorgeous look—celeb hairstylist Marc Mena—shared how to pull it off in warmer weather. Surprisingly, it's all about what you do before you create those curls.
"Start off with a good, solid foundation and choose an anti-humidity shampoo and conditioner," recommended the pro. Something like John Frieda Frizz Ease Miraculous Recovery Deep Conditioner will do the trick.
If frizz is not your friend, the hair guru recommended taking more aggressive measures. "Opt for a more permanent solution like a heavy treatment masque," he said. We love Redken All Soft Heavy Cream Super Treatment. "You can also use a dehumidifier at night that will take the moisture out of the air while you sleep, making morning styling a breeze."

After you wash your hair, apply a little bit of leave-in conditioner and light gel to your locks and let it air-dry. The next steps depend on your hair type.
"If you have naturally curly hair, use a curling iron that best matches the size of your own curl. For example, if you have loose curls, use a curling iron that is one inch thick or above," said Marc. "If you don't have natural curls, try using an anti-humidity mousse or gel, then blow-dry hair, which will remove all the frizz. Then use a one-inch curling iron or wand to achieve perfect and smooth curls."
Love Jordana's hair? Here's how to get it!
Step 1: Start with Kérastase Resistance Spray Volumactive on towel-dried hair.
Step 2: Flip head over and blow-dry with a paddle brush, which will create straight ends.
Step 3: Once hair is smooth and blown out, use two different curling irons, alternating between a one-inch and one-and-a quarter-inch to create dimension.
Our tip: Stand in shade and rooms with AC as much as possible!
