Holiday party season is in full swing! *tosses confetti*
Whether you’re headed to an ugly sweater party, rocking a killer LBD to
your office soirée, or turning up with friends, I am ready to
help you elevate your POW and go from desk-to-drinks like a g-darn
rockstar.
Line it Up
Dana Rae Asburn, founder of Able Cosmetics (clients include: Hannah Bronfman, Tanya Becker, Daphne Oz) states: “you can never go wrong with a classic cat eye during the holidays. This timeless look goes with every outfit and is appropriate for every occasion.” (FYI, that even includes reindeer antlers)
How To: Start with (1.) Able Cosmetic Cat Eye 101 ($32) liner in black. The sleek design and felt tip will make creating a cat eye a breeze, even for a makeup newbie. Take this look further by adding (2.) Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner ($20) above or over your basic cat eye. The glitter in this liner is suspended in a gel so you don’t have to worry about fall out. Now that your eyes are lined and sparkly … it’s time to make those peepers pop! Add a pair of (3.) Ardell Wispies ($5)…va-va-voom!
Glam and Glow
“Fresh, dewy skin might seem like more of a warm weather trend but this look really lends itself to every season,” explains Dana.
How To: Start by mixing a liquid illuminator in with your favorite liquid or cream foundation and apply as you normally would. If needed, highlight and contour with cream based products so you can blend easily and keep the glow going. Make the look last by using a small brush to lightly apply a translucent setting powder only where you tend to get extra glowy, think the T-zone. Pack blotting paper to remove any excess oiliness that may spring up as you dance the night away.
“Nothing says ‘the holidays don’t stress me out quite like a youthful glow.” Keep the look youthful by tight-lining the upper lash line; this opens up the eyes and gives a fresh-faced, innocent look.
TRY:
1. Bobbi Brown Illuminating Balm ($67)
2. Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Match Stix Trio ($54)
3. MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Loose Powder ($27)
4. Becca Light Waves Highlighter Palette ($34)
5. e.l.f. Feather Light Highlighter Brush ($8)
6. House of Lashes – Starlet ($12)
Shimmering Siren
Glittery lids for holiday can be tricky to pull off without practice. Instead of glitter, celebrity makeup artist, Jamie Dorman, suggests a shimmery eye look that “takes a cue from the Bond girls of the ’70s.”
How To (with Westmore Beauty Eyecons Eyeshadow Palette):
Using Eyecons Eyeshadow Palette, press “Bombshell” onto the lid. Blend a lifted V shape into the outer edge of the eye using “Glamorous”. Blend out any harsh edges with the shade “Seductress”. Line the lower lash line with “Leading Lady”. Finish with a couple of coats of your favorite mascara.
TRY:
1. Westmore Beauty Limited Edition Hollywood Eyecons Eyeshadow Palette ($44)
2. Sephora Collection Winter Magic Eyeshadow Palette ($10)
3. Tarte Limited Edition Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara ($23)
Power Pout
This is, by far, the easiest look to pull off when short on time. Exfoliating
lips beforehand will give you a flawless application, and with the right lipstick, your application will last through sips, nibbles, and even a kiss under the mistletoe.
How To: Exfoliate lips using a soft bristle toothbrush, a DIY concoction of granulated sugar and petroleum jelly, or a store bought lip scrub. Apply lipstick with a slow and steady hand — building to the consistency and finish you want. Clean up your lip line with a bit of concealer on a firm brush. Apply the tiniest bit of your favorite highlighter to your cupid’s bow.
TRY:
1. Bareminerals Statement Matte Liquid Lipcolor in Naughty ($19)
2. Beauty Pie Future Lipstick in To the Beet ($3)
3. Lime Crime Metallic Velvetines in Red Hot ($20)
4. e.l.f. Cosmetics Lip Exfoliator ($3)
Nail It
During this party season, you’ll probably shake countless hands — make sure your finger tips are on point. Whether you opt for a tradition polish, nail stickers, or press-ons, you can rock a mani that says, ‘party time’! Choose a standout shade…but make sure you’re nails are in tip top shape!
How To: Clean cuticles. Trim and shape nails. Always choose a proper base coat; this helps the polish to last longer and reduces the appearance of nail stains. Apply your nail color in light coats and allow to dry between each application. Apply top coat and you’re done.
TRY:
1. Christian Louboutin Rouge Louboutin Metalissime Nail Colour ($50)
2. LAW Beauty in A Milli ($9)
3. Christian Siriano for Kiss imPRESS Press on Manicure ($8)
4. Jamberry Nail Wrap in Obsidian Rose Gold ($15)
5. Essie Gel Couture Platinum Finish Top Coat ($12)
6. OPI Natural Nail Base Coat ($12)
