How to Create A Worthy Red Carpet Glam

teewhy-hive.blogspot.co.uk
We’ve entered the second most wonderful time of the year: awards season. From the Golden Globes to the Oscars, it’s a seemingly endless parade of celebrities looking glam, glowy, and gorgeous.

While you may not be attending the Grammys, it’s possible to get paparazzi-worthy makeup for your own events. (Or, hey, just for Instagram.) We turned to celebrity makeup artist Emily Kate Warren, who’s made celebrities like Dakota Fanning and Natalie Morales look red carpet-ready, to find out how to get the glam.
From complexion to lips to eyes, here’s how to look like you’ve just stepped off the carpet (or are about to step on).
FLAWLESS FACE
For camera-ready foundation, try a creamy liquid with light-reflecting capabilities, such as Clinique Even Better Glow Light Reflecting Makeup ($28) or Nars Sheer Glow Foundation ($47). Warren offers an application trick: “Always use a damp sponge when applying foundation so you get a fresh, dewy effect.”
To get that airbrushed look, “bake” it by applying translucent powder, such as Make Up For Ever HD Ultra HD Microfinishing Loose Powder ($36) or NYX HD Studio Photogenic Finishing Powder, with a wet makeup sponge, such as a Fenty Beauty Precision Makeup Sponge ($16), and leaving on your face for ten minutes before dusting off.

BERRY COLORED LIPS
There’s a reason berry colored lips are a red carpet classic: they display instant glamour and work for every complexion. Liquid lipstick is the go-to formulation, which slides on like velvet and stays put all night. Try Buxom Cosmetics Va-Va-PLUMP Shiny Liquid Lipstick in Wine Me ($20) or Milani Amore Matte Lip Cream in Obsession ($9).
CLASSIC, OLD HOLLYWOOD EYES
“On red carpets, the big trend is going natural,” Warren says. “It’s far more daring than a wild look.” Bold lashes, strong brows, and a smokey eye are always classic, recalling Old Hollywood.

To get the perfect smokey eye, start with a neutral eyeshadow like Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadow Single in Birkin ($12) or NYX Hot Singles Eyeshadow in Sin ($4) all over the lid, and then follow with plum in the crease, like Make Up For Ever Artists Color Eyeshadow in Eggplant ($17) or L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Violet Beaute ($5).
For mascara, use a va-va-voom black like Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara in Black ($4) or Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara ($25). Finish with a black liquid eyeliner such as Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner ($22) or CoverGirl Intensify Me! Liquid Liner in Intense Black ($9), flicking it upward for a cat-like effect.
“Don’t neglect your brows: they frame the face!” says Warren. “A light gray or taupe works for most brows.” Try Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Powder ($21) and NYX Micro Brow Pencil ($10). Finish with a brow gel, like Glossier Boy Brow in Clear ($16), to keep stray hairs in place.
Finally, pull out your phone. “Take a flash picture to look for hot spots: areas that are too shiny or not blended well,” says Warren. Happy glamming!
