Kanye West Scores Eighth No. 1 Album with ‘ye’

Kanye West lands his eighth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 as ye debuts at the top.

The 7-track album, which was released on June 1 via G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam, moved 208,000 equivalent album units (85,000 in traditional sales) in its first week. According to Billboard, it earns the fifth-largest week for an album in 2018.
The album’s 7 tracks, featuring Kid Cudi, Pusha-T, and Young Thug, racked up 180.1 million on-demand audio streams, marking the seventh-biggest debut streaming week for an album.
West also makes chart history, tying Eminem as the only acts with eight consecutive No. 1 debuts. Additionally, ye is the fifth-biggest week for an album this year following Post Malone’s beerbongs & bentleys (461,000), J. Cole’s KOD (397,000), Justin Timberlake’s Man of the Woods (293,000), and Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy (255,000).
The G.O.O.D. Music chief is expected to make another top 10 debut next week when his collaborative album with Kid Cudi, Kids See Ghosts, arrives on the charts. He also helmed production for Nas and Teyana Taylor’s upcoming albums.
Following ye at No. 2 is Post Malone’s beerbongs & bentleys with 99,000 units. Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy holds at No. 5 (49,000), Juice WRLD’s Goodbye & Good Riddance rises 8-6 (42,000), and Lil Baby’s Harder Than Ever slides 7-9 (37,000).
