The details of Sandra Bland’s death – ruled as a suicide – continue to perplex most of us. It is truly a heartbreaking string of events, and one that makes us realize that many of us are at the mercy of the system. While federal investigators have been sent to investigate the incident as well, many are not convinced that the investigation will reveal the true details of Bland’s death. Indeed, according to The Root, Bland’s mother, Geneva Reed-Veal, has stated that she has little to know faith in what the investigations might reveal. She is putting her faith in God instead.

Bland was laid to rest on Saturday morning in Lisle, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, where according to the New York Times, hundreds of people showed up to mourn her tragic death. When Bland’s mother spoke, she reiterated that her daughter was in a good place in her life – and that she did not believe that Sandra committed suicide.
Bland is remembered as an outspoken, intelligent women and who, according to Reed-Veal and the NYT report, had found her purpose in life – which was to end injustice in the South. What a tragedy than an injustice in the South would ultimately lead to her death. Perhaps in her honor, it is the duty of good people everywhere to put an end to such injustices.
