Fashion Scoop: Nina Garcia on Diversity in Fashion & More

Zendaya
  • Let the record show that Zendaya Coleman will come correct when necessary! When an image of Zendaya and her parents went viral on Twitter after receiving negative comments on their looks, Zendaya took the Twitter trolls to task with a powerful response. “While you’re so concerned about what my parents look like, please know that these are two of the most selfless people in the world,” she responded in defense of her family. • Rumors surfaced in early February that Beyonce and Jay-Z were working on a joint album following an interview with music producer Noel “Detail” Fisher with Billboard magazine. Although that would be an epic story, news today is that Beyonce is pushing full-steam ahead with a solo LP. In typical fashion, we likely won’t know the facts until the last possible moment. Let the waiting commence. (International Business Times)

  • Russell Westbrook will wed his long-time girlfriend Nina Earl this weekend. Known for his bold style, a recent capsule collaboration with Barneys NY and being seen front row at fashion weeks around the world, Westbrook has a foot firmly planted in the fashion industry. His wedding this Saturday will surely sport his signature flare, but he won’t be able to outshine his bride. (NBC Sports)
Oprah and Oscar de la Renta
  • A new fashion museum is set to open in Atlanta, GA this fall. The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) will open a museum on October 3, 2015 entitled SCADfash on its Atlanta campus and will kick off with an exhibition celebrating the late Oscar de la Renta. Get ready to see the designer’s best looks up-close and personal from your favorite stars and celebrities. (Mashable)
Diversity in the Fashion Industry
  • Nina Garcia says the fashion industry is making strides in “addressing” its “huge” race problem. In a recent HuffPost Live interview, the Marie Claire creative director and “Project Runway” judge acknowledged that “there’s not enough African-American girls on the runway.” Preach Nina!
