Paris Fashion Week Haute Pics
What once was an exclusive hush-hush gathering of fashion’s creme-de-la creme, is becoming more and more of a mainstream event. Not that the immaculate craftsmanship has in any way diminished, nor has the extravagance of each design or its corresponding price tag. It’s merely a reality that with media outlets expanding at the speed of light, the masses of fine apparel admirers (like you and I) are gaining more insight and access into this ultra elite soirée.
Unlike the other Ready-to-Wear Fashion Weeks held twice a year in the city of lights, this particular consortium of designers showcases the most luxurious, in some cases even unwearable, works of art by the short list of ateliers accepted into France’s Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Paris. In other words, there is couture and then there is the mother of couture, that promotes even higher standards than the already lofty realms of high-fashion. The term haute couture is used to identify these extraordinarily exquisite garments, and the use of this term is very serious business in France. There the formal usage of the term for characterizing qualifying fashion houses is protected by law and the nation’s chamber of commerce.
Overdosing on opulence, we’ve compiled a quick round-up of just a few of our favorite looks so far from today’s top shows:
Elie Saab
Valentino
Check back for my complete trend tracking review once the festivities conclude.
