H&M never fails when it come to designer collaborations!
After landing successful projects with fashion heavyweights such as Balmain, Alexander Wang and Isabael Marant, the brand has finally released confirmation about their upcoming collaboration with Kenzo – which is set to hit stores worldwide on November 3, 2016.
Kenzo is a French luxury fashion house that was founded in 1970 by
Japanese designer Kenzo Takada. The platform of Kenzo is set upon the
ideal of shaking up the world of fashion while stepping outside the
standard expectations of seasonal trends.
With a massive following and a clear vision, celebrities simply can’t
get enough! Solange, Zendaya, Jessica Alba, Rihanna, Selena Gomez and
even FLOTUS Michelle Obama are all loyal supporters.
Sidenote: Remember their signature tiger-embroidered sweatshirt that was EVERYWHERE a few years ago?!
In an interview with Kenzo’s creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon (who also launched Opening Ceremony
in 2002), H&M inquired about the emotions connected to landing such
a monstrous opportunity, as well as the overall goal of this iconic
collaboration:
WHEN H&M CAME TO YOU WITH THIS IDEA, HOW DID YOU REACT?
Carol Lim: ”We were really excited. Obviously, we’re the latest in a
line of a lot of incredible people. We were like, ‘We’re in great
company!’”
WERE YOU NERVOUS?
Humberto Leon: ”No. We trust ourselves. And we trust each other. You
know, I say, “What about this?” And Carol is like, ‘Well, what if we
did it this way?’ It’s us, feeding off of each other.”
Carol Lim: ”I can really say we don’t get nervous anymore. We get
excited—to start thinking, to start planning, to start asking
ourselves, ‘Okay, so what do we want to talk about this time?’ What it
comes down to is figuring out, okay, what message do we want to send
with this collection?”
AND WHAT DID YOU DECIDE?
Humberto Leon: ”We wanted to really tell the story of the brand and
of us. Together with H&M, we will invite all the customers and fans
to the real Kenzo world.
I’m really excited about this one! After surviving Balmain hysteria
(and not purchasing a SINGLE piece), I think the decision to collaborate
with Kenzo was beyond brilliant. Can’t wait to see what they have in store.
What do you think?
