Last Minute Beauty For A Rocking 2016
The parties, the people, the promise of a New Year—it’s almost 2017, which means it’s time for the mother of all celebrations to (finally) put this year to bed. New Year’s Eve is like the Superbowl of beauty: the opportunity to get dolled up and look dazzling, with almost no makeup look too much.
From your skin to your lips to your eyes, there are a myriad of easy makeup tricks you can do to take your look from pretty to perfect. Here, the quick fixes to make yourself look ravishing for a rocking NYE 2016.
Glowy Skin
Whether you’re knocking back a few glasses of champagne at a party or enjoying a quiet night in with your nearest and dearest, you’ll want to make sure your skin shines (just so long as it’s not actually shiny). Get a gorgeous glow thanks to a highlighting powder dusted on your temples, cheekbones, and décolletage. Avoid your t-zone, which will lead to the type of shine you don’t want, in favor of your cheekbones, for the shine you do.
Try Bare Escentuals Clear Radiance ($21) or Physicians Formula Powder Palette Pearls ($7).
Red Lips
Candy-apple, good-enough-to-eat red lips are a tried and true beauty staple. Make them look modern by forgoing a shiny, glossy pout in favor of a matte lipgloss (often billed as “suede” or “velvet”). Red lipstick can be unforgiving to begin with, and matte versions are especially so, therefore it’s important to apply slowly and meticulously, and consider using a lipliner to prevent bleeding.
Try NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Kitten Heels ($7) or NARS Velvet Lip Glide in No. 54 ($26), and Sephora Collection Lip Liner To Go in Classic Red ($6) or L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipliner ($6).
Smokey Eyes
Like red lips, smokey eyes are another perennial classic that’s instantly guaranteed to elevate your party face. For the holidays, make smokey eyes look fresh and fun thanks to your shade choice: gunmetal grey. A grey smokey eye looks amazing with every complexion and, bonus, is basically goofproof. (Well, goofproof for a smokey eye, that is!) Apply in the cream and blend, blend, blend.
Try Make Up For Ever Eyeshadow in Chrome ($21) or ZuZu Luxe Eyeshadow in Gem ($16).
Fluttery, Feathery Lashes
When it comes to luscious lashes, the bigger the better! If you don’t want to invest in a pair of professionally applied lashes, you can now buy super easy-to-apply falsies and stick them on with a pair of tweezers. Since it’s New Year’s Eye and drama reigns, go for a larger-than-life fluttery pair, like Huda Beauty Classic False Lashes ($18) or Ardell Eyelash Wispies ($4).
