Fashion Scoop: Kanye West Calls Ralph Lauren His ‘Daddy,’ Pharrell Williams To Host T-Shirt Contest, and Chanel To Launch E-Commerce With Net-A-Porter
- Last February during fashion month, a curious picture surfaced of
Ralph Lauren caressing the face of Kanye West. At the time no one
really knew what was going on, but there definitely seemed to be some
type of appreciation. In a recent interview West had admitted there was
mutual admiration in the snap. According to Yeezy, Lauren said to him “This is my son,” in the photo. And for Kanye’s thoughts on the matter: “I knew it! I knew Ralph was my daddy!” (Fashionista)
- Though things haven’t been as eventful as last year, Pharrell
Williams has been silently plugging along with his status in the fashion
industry. His latest project comes as a collaboration with Woolworths,
who has tapped the producer to be their style director. Williams will
help the company in looking for South African creatives aged 15 to 25 to
design T-shirts that will raise awareness about the environment. The
winning designs will be printed and sold. (The Fashion Spot)
- With so much press about the Apple Watch, it was only a matter of
time before a competitor started to rib the brand. The first round
contender: Shinola. The watch brand took out an ad that reads “A watch so smart that it can tell you the time, just by looking at it.” The text is ingenuously cute and will begin to appear today in circulation. (Details)
- Having always been known for his outsized personality, it came as no
surprise when Karl Lagerfeld revealed his opinion about the impending Zoolander sequel. Apparently the designer was asked to join the movie and he flat out refused. “I don’t want to be in the movie! They wanted me to be in the movie!” he said in an interview. And his distaste doesn’t end there. Lagerfeld wasn’t a fan of the Valentino stunt either. (Grazia)
- Though they are launching e-commerce fully between the end of this
year and throughout next year, Chanel is dipping their toes in with
Net-a-Porter now. Coco Crush represents the first fine-jewelry
collection by the French house to be sold online. Five rings and one
cuff crafted from 18-karat white and yellow gold make up the line. (Vogue UK)
