J.Crew To Open A Lower-Priced Brand Called J. Crew Mercantile.
• Earlier this year, our dreams of better-priced jacquard J.Crew collection cafe capris were dashed when their PR department came out to refute claims made by CEO Mickey Drexler that they were lowering their prices. But all is not lost! According to the Wall Street Journal, J.Crew’s planning on opening a lower-priced brand called J. Crew Mercantile. They’ve already registered the trademark, having filing for one as last November. So, how will J. Crew Mercantile be different from J. Crew Factory, you ask? Mercantile will be its own brand, whereas Factory will continue to serve in more of an “outlet” capacity. Either way, I expect plenty of J. Crew fans with shallower pockets will be shopping. Self included. (Fashionsta)
