Giambattista Valli Couture Fall 2015

They’re backkkkk! That is, the couture shows have begun this month in Paris and as always, we have the scoop straight off the runways. First up, Giambattista Valli. As a designer known for his decadent dresses, Giambattista Valli surprising presented a whopping 19 looks with slim pants, well over one-third of his Fall 2015 Couture collection. Printed, embroidered, feathered, under long dresses, under sheaths, and under coats, these cropped, just above the ankle slim pants were having a moment and I’m happy for it.

These days I am much more intrigued by the accessories that complement the collection. Although, it will take a few months (a few weeks if you’re Zara!) to dilute these couture trends into fast fashion, everyday accessible ensembles, there is inspiration to be had in the meantime from these pieces. Highlights for me include: the silver wrap-around necklace, seventies-style oversized sunglasses, and shoulder-grazing sequined pendant earrings.

Fresh off the latest cover of Teen Vogue, Lineisy Montero did the darn thing in a stylish high-low shirt with the signature cropped pants that would be perfect for a warm autumn evening. Her fellow models, Aya Jones, Amilna Estavão, and Karly Loyce, donned the oversized sunglasses in a variety of looks, including mini shift dresses and a cross-hatched green top and flowing pants.

The rest of the models could be seen in a sea of tulle, draped gowns in grapefruit, pink, and mustard, and sexy interpretations of black-on-black lace. Of course, some pieces were less functional than others, but that is the beauty of couture. For the thousands of hours and dollars spent on each creation, some pieces will only have their moment begin and end on the runway.
