Shonda Rhimes warned Columbus Short to get his act together but looks like he didn’t take heed to her advice! According to reports, the “Scandal” actor was fired from the hit ABC drama due to his real-life troubles, fueled by violent behavior and an ugly divorce.
Short announced the news in a statement today. Along with thanking gladiators for their support, he confirmed that the show’s forrth season will return in the fall without his character Harrison Wright.
“At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I’ve called home for three years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today,” the 31-year-old said. “I would like to first thank Shonda Rhimes for the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast. Thank you Gladiators, who have supported me throughout my entire career and of course to ABC and Shondaland for allowing me to play such a pivotal role in the Scandal series.”
He went on to say he “enjoyed every single minute of it” but “everything must come to an end, and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas.”
“I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry [Washington] and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time,” he added. “For this, I will forever be grateful.”In March, Short was arrested on a felony battery charge after a restaurant fight. And earlier this month, his wife of nearly nine years, Tanee McCall-Short, got a restraining order against him after he allegedly came home drunk, put a knife to her throat and threatened to end both of their lives. She filed for divorce for the third time and is seeking full legal and physical custody of their 2-year-old daughter Ayala.
