Brandon Sun Fall 2015.

Fur was in abundance at Brandon Sun’s Fall show, with a collection positively brimming with fabrics and exotic pelts. The designer pulled inspiration from the black paintings of French artist, engraver, and sculptor Pierre Soulages (deemed “the world’s greatest living artist” by French President Francois Hollande last year), which contrasted with the works of Instagram artist Douglas Abrahams — a beautiful and quite unreal harmony between the restraint of yore and the mediums of the present.

Though fur has never gone out of style, real fur is still quite the taboo in this health-conscious, vegan-everything, kale-obsessed age. Sun wants to become the designer for fur lovers of this generation who want more of a bad ass edge and a sultry flair to the texture than what they are being offered from other brands right now.

As is requisite for the season, leather made an appearance juxtaposed against black fur on a form-fitting zip-front dress with a thigh-high front slit, a strapless woven LBD that will surely hit the red carpet in the months to come, a long-sleeve frock with a sexy keyhole for nights out, and a high-waist pencil skirt again paired with the aforementioned fuzzy texture for cocktail parties on brisk evenings. Black leather cutout booties and strappy cutout sandals served to further push the bad ass vibe that Sun set out to achieve.

The female form was certainly on display with va-va-voom cutouts, leg-baring slits, plunging necklines, cinched waists, and mini dresses. A sleeveless embroidered number nipped in at the waist for the ultimate study in curves, while a completely sheer blouse left virtually nothing to the imagination.

Separates brought functionality and practicality (however slight) to the myriad of fur from textured high-waist skirts to office-ready trousers. A metallic skirt suit could work for the career women in a workplace where the dress code isn’t incredibly strict and a fuzzy blouse could be paired with everything from a blazer to a pair of boyfriend jeans.

And how could we forget the fur? A floppy black fur collar on a quilted leather jacket, black trim on a zipper-accented coat, shaggy shearling on a knee-length design, a full-on white and chocolate ribbed mink — powerful, cozy, and sure to catch the eye of buyers and fur lovers worldwide.

These looks certainly made a splash and were definitely noteworthy among the pieces that have already been shown during NYFW thus far. There were a slew of patterns and textures at play with even more concepts in motion, but the ensembles always radiated a sense of authority and might.
