Duro Olowu Fall 2014.

This is a noteworthy year for Duro Olowu, as his brand is celebrating a decade in business. If your line was able to survive the economy of the past few years and the ever-changing needs of the stylish consumer, then it’s safe to say that your brand DNA is crafted from some strong stuff. Olowu is well aware, and stuck to his signatures for his latest Fall 2014 collection: bold prints, a retro-inspired vibe, and expert tailoring.
Check them out below:

Olowu pulled inspiration from the 20′s furniture designs of Elizabeth Eyre de Lanux, as well as the work of those in the Dada Movement of the early 20th century including Marcel Duchamp and one of my personal favorites, Man Ray. The influence was blatant in the vintage feel of the designs from a plush black fur scarf bracing the neck to the Art Deco nature of the collection’s dizzying zigzag, chevron, and geometric prints.

The simplicity of a tie-neck cape and dress in a similar silhouette in black, hot pink, and cobalt coloring was breathtaking. For those who aren’t comfortable with mixing prints, these designs will surely hit the mark, as well as making an impact in the retail sector for boutiques and department stores.

First Lady Michelle Obama and actress Brittany Snow were among the brand’s wearers last year and a couple of the gowns on display made a great case for red carpet-worthy attire. A tiered dot and floral print number will be beautiful for a Summer movie premiere while a voluminous brocade piece with stripe and leopard pattern insets could certainly make a statement on the red carpet during Cannes.
