Fendi Fall 2014.

From athletic-inspired to travel-themed sophisticate, Fendi’s Fall 2014 collection was many things: not surprising when one thinks of the creative genius of Karl Lagerfeld and the wealth of knowledge that is packed tightly into his brain. The clothes were fun and forceful, all captured by the Italian fashion house’s drones whizzing over the catwalk. Titled “Made In Italy”, the lineup was a nod to Italian artistry: so exceptional that the brand felt we all needed to have our memory refreshed.

Elegant dresses and coats were accented with random tufts of fur, as that is what Fendi does best after all. Hemlines were long, while mesh insets injected that aforementioned dose of sporty chic. It was all quite a bit to digest though that is often the Lagerfeld way.

 
The collection was then punctured with more modern silhouettes including dresses with mesh hems, thigh-high white leather boots, mesh-inset zip-front skirts, and even fur track pants. The looks were given an infusion of 50′s flair with orchid corsages: a nod to Billie Holiday’s 1958 rendition of “Violets For Your Furs”.

 
The most fun was had when fur was juxtaposed against quilted patent leather, sheer open knits, striped on fuzzy toppers, and pieced together on rounded-shoulder coats.

 
There were a slew of looks that added some color to the lineup including hot pink and orange. The patchwork designs ranged from bracelet-sleeve coats to clutches: the latter which automatically shot to the top of the season’s must-splurge list. I’m a fan of bright outerwear, thus a pink parka with a fur-trimmed hood was one of my favorite designs presented here.

 
There were a handful of looks at hand that could work for the red carpet, brimming with embellishment and mesh for sultry peeks of skin. Solange Knowles usually opts for colors and prints, but I could see her in the lineup’s adorned topper, sheer pleated mini skirt, and thigh-high boots, while Rita Ora will certainly wear a long sheer gown in an exotic skin-embossed fabric. I also suspect that the fashion house’s new fur bugs taking on the appearance of Karl Lagerfeld will be a big smash with both the “It” girl set and those who have always admired the iconic designer.
