One of the things I love about God is the extravagant detail he puts into the design of each creation. Little things like snowflakes and fingerprints have such incredible nuances that no two (of the millions created) are ever alike. Then there is the beauty of nature’s contrasts: lovely beaches versus snow-capped mountains, tropical rainforests versus sun-corched deserts). There is so much detail and dynamic wonder in each divine opus, sometimes it takes your breath away.
We, as people, are equally as unique. Each one of us, besides sharing similarities like gender, race, or age, are distinctly different. I see this first-hand with my children and grandchildren. While there are obvious and even subtle similarities, there are one hundred times more differentiating aspects. While the intricate details show their uniqueness, the uniqueness further reveals each one’s value.
Individuality is often met with intense opposition —from frivolous social media shade to more significant, damaging acts of discrimination. Everything from cyberbullying to holocausts, even genocides, all find their origin in a deep-seated loathing of differences. Yet the truth still remains that our variances are as divine as our similarities. Never apologize for being different. Celebrate your differences, and live a life that allows your unique you to shine. Most importantly, whatever you have that makes you special, own it!
