Kylie Minogue Fights Kylie Jenner's Bid to Trademark Their Shared First Name

What's in a name? A lot, actually—particularly if you're famous.
Just ask Kylie Minogue, who is trying to legally stop Kylie Jenner from trademarking their shared first name. On Feb. 22, the 47-year-old "Love at First Sight" singer filed her own opposition to 18-year-old Jenner's application to claim ownership of the Kylie name in the United States.
Per Minogue's notice of opposition (filed by KBD, an Australian business representing the singer) she has been active in the entertainment industry since 1979 and known by her first name since her first album, Kylie, was released in 1988. The website "www.kylie.com" was registered to Minogue in 1996 and has been operational since 1998, her opposition states.

The document goes on to note that Minogue is the owner of several Kylie logo and namesake trademarks, for a variety of goods and services including fragrances, jewelry and clothing and live entertainment performances. Minogue thinks that granting Jenner the right to trademark the Kylie name would "violate and diminish the prior and superior rights" of the singer. Her notice of opposition also feels Jenner's proposed trademark "is likely to be confused with and mistaken for [Minogue's]  goods and services." In other words, Minogue feels those familiar with her Kylie goods and services "would likely be confused, be mistaken, or be deceived into belief" that Jenner's Kylie stuff was somehow affiliated with Minogue's.

E! News reached out to Minogue's attorney but did not receive an immediate response. Jenner's rep had no comment.
Minogue, FWIW, seemingly alluded to the copyright feud on Twitter Sunday, writing, "Hello..... My name is KYLIE #lightyears"
