At The Event: 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Hey everyone! Well, it’s official. Award season is in the thick of it all, and tonight, actors were celebrated at the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The Shrine Auditorium was set aglow as a mast of celebrities sauntered down the red carpet. If the Golden Globes were any indication of the kind of award season we’re going to have this year in terms of fashion, then the SAG Awards definitely picked up where the prior left off. So, without further adieu, here’s whose looks turned it out, and whose didn’t quite glisten for the gods. First up is the actress phenom who is taking the fashion world and every red carpet and television appearance by storm. Ladies and gentlemen, Lupita Nyong’o in a Gucci gown and Christian Louboutin ‘Vendome’ shoes. She chose a turquoise gown with a bejeweled collar, and honey, what an excellent choice it was for that gorgeous chocolate skin. Mint chocolate chip ice-cream wish it ever could look this alluring. A resounding HOT! And many congrats to her on her best actress win!
Kerry Washington and her lovely baby bump glowed in Prada. The mama-to-be looked resplendent in a beaded crop top and full skirt by the house. Her ensemble was punctuated with Christian Louboutin ‘Pigalace’ pumps. I never thought I’d see the day where someone pregnant could wear a crop top on the red carpet…and look so dazzling! Hot!
Saucy Modern Family star Sofia Vergara was pure effulgence in Donna Karan Atelier. The sequined beaded number hugged her curves and complimented her voluptuous figure.
Co-star Julie Bowen chose Carolina Herrera for the night’s wares. I love the futuristic detail of this gown, but hmm… it doesn’t flatter her bust line.
Another Modern Family star, Sarah Hyland was perfection personified in Pamella Roland. The white high-low gown and her soft makeup made her look ethereal.
Hollywood’s darling Jennifer Lawrence stood tall in Dior. This dark sequined gown gleamed as photographers flashed. I must say, she never seems to have a bad red carpet moment, and this dress proves why. The square bust line gave the dress a bit of modern flair, while still maintaining its class and sex appeal.
Cate Blanchett opted for a white Givenchy number this go ’round. She always knocks it out of the park for me, but hmm… she gave “champagne party in the Hamptons” and not “red carpet glory.” Her makeup, on the other hand: perfection.
Sandra Bullock may seem to have a little something for cropped hemlines. And while her Prabal Gurung gown from the Golden Globes got mixed reviews, her Lanvin number for the SAG’s should have dispelled any doubt that she isn’t a fashion star. The hunter green frock with its origami bow offset her luscious brunette locks and gave her gams some length. Here for it!
Funny girl Mindy Kaling went for a darker hue in this navy blue David Meister gown. While I loved the color against her skin tone and its draping and drooping neckline, hmm…I thought it could’ve used some sparkle for such a sparkly personality.
Camila Alves stunned in this scintillating Donna Karan gown with a knee grazing slit. It definitely hugged her figure like a glove. And chartreuse…perfect color. It could’ve used a statement necklace with that neckline, however.
Helen Mirren is always full of surprises when it comes to the red carpet. And Miss Mirren made us do double takes. Slicked back hair, a bold red lip, statement earrings and an embroidered, black and gold Escada gown, she was definitely ‘Team Sass”. One word (patent pending): slaydom.
Julia Roberts was there in a Valentino jumpsuit, but still red carpet ready. No shade, I adore this more than her Dolce & Gabbana decision at the Golden Globes. Lovely!
Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke slipped on a sleek Calvin Klein asymmetric dress. Leaving jewels to a minimum, she opted for a glimmering bangle and fresh-faced makeup. She completed her hot look with a black clutch. A finger waving “YAS” for Khaleesi.
I’m sure this look will have all the fashion big-wigs talking. GoT co-star Natalie Dorman gave us Cassie tress realness shocking everyone with a half-shaved head. But this haircut does her so much justice. Needless to say, she needed a gown to offset her edgy new do. A white Marios Schwab was her choice. Perfect decision with the caged sleeves, which tied this rock-glam chic look together. Hot!
Hannah Simone gave Grecian goddess tease in this dainty Marchesa. Petal details at the collar, she didn’t wear much jewelry and framed her gorgeous face with an up-do.
Claire Danes took a break from saving the nation in Homeland to hypnotize us in this stunning Vionnet number with sheer tulle overlay. Clearly a red carpet specialist, this moment attests to all the accolades she’s been getting for her award show styles. Hot!
Amy Adams gave old Hollywood glam in this blue Antonio Berardi gown. Jeweled belt, slit and shoulder cut-out, the look is definitely a step up from the Valentino she wore last week. Accented with emerald earrings, her hair really brought that old Hollywood flair.
Lavender haired Kelly Osbourne sported a cropped bob while wearing the hell out of this pewter Zac Posen. The ribbed details and swirls gave the dress an interesting aesthetic only a risk taker like her can pull off.
Kelly Cuoco let us know that redemption is only a week away as she sported this gray Vera Wang gown. While not an absolute favorite of mine – she could have used some color- it’s definitely an improvement from last week.
Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery took no prisoners in this J. Mendel number. Cleavage and leg out the yin-yang, the black and white color-blocked gown still maintained an elegance no one else could muster here. Hot!
Isla Fisher looked as smooth as silk in this Oscar de la Renta gown that loved her petite frame. Side-swooped hair, a berry lip and emerald jewels enhanced the innocent sultriness Isla’s always possessed. Gorgeous!
And last, but not least, is Mariah Carey in Saint Laurent. I love Mimi to the moon and back, but I often don’t love her red carpet choices. This look delineates why. Hmm…she didn’t look as lustrous as one should when they’re a diva. This cocktail dress, leather glovelettes, and fishnet stockings all gave SNL performance. And the frock made her look a little…box-shaped. Fingers crossed Joan keeps her composure when Fashion Police airs. Her hair and makeup, though, are en pointe.
WHEW! That was a mouthful! But all-in-all, a well dressed award show INDEED!
Who were your hits and misses?
