Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2014.

This season of Dior Haute Couture was all about eyelet and lace. Apropos, since it is a staple of the season.
Everything from jumpsuits and dresses to jackets and skirts were crafted from the nimbly detailed accoutrements, coming together in an airy, sometimes ethereal offering with a dark edge. This year’s show took place in a rosegold mirrored tent at the Rodin museum, emblazoned with the Dior logo. Inside, the venue was made to look like a cavernous igloo. Fortunately, the clothing didn’t give off such a wintry feel.

Designer Raf Simons revisited many of the silhouette he’s executed in the past: hi-lo hems, A-line, column, and full-skirted dresses, some rendered in charming cocoon shapes, and  plenty of great jumpsuit options. There is cutwork galore this season, several pieces fluttering with cutout fabric petals laid over sheer panels, flanked by some gratuitous beading.

The footwear options range from sellable staples (laceup booties) to statement splurges (silver studded loafer-style pumps) to what one could consider a flash-in-the-pan trend. Behold: the bedazzled pool shoes Simons paired with many of the more elegant looks. They had several editors raving on social media. Me: not so much.

We’ll most likely see Jennifer Lawrence and Marion Cotillard in one or more of these looks, although I could picture Kerry Washington in that lovely white fluttering gown, serving earth mother realness. It is certainly a pretty, modern collection, but we’ll have to wait and see which looks actually make it to the red carpet.
What do you think?
