Denzel Washington Reveals Which Actor Taught Him How to Act Drunk—Find Out Who!

Denzel Washington
Acting like you're drunk when you're not actually drunk is harder than you think.
Many actors in Hollywood have had to portray an inebriated individual, including Denzel Washington, who famously took on the role of Whip Whitaker in Flight, the story of a pilot who miraculously crash lands his plane after it suffers an in-flight mechanical failure whlie having some drinks in him.
And now, Denzel gets in touch with his tipsy side for Broadway's A Raisin in the Sun where Denzel Washington gets up on a table and dances.
"There wasn't a whole lot of direction for that scene," Washington told Vulture at the after-party at Tribeca Rooftop.

But when it comes to playing a drunk character, he explained, "You don't play drunk—you try to act sober. People don't act drunk, people are drunk, and they try to act sober."
Regardless, Denzel credits a specific star to helping him get in touch with his inner drunkard—Ian McKellen! (Or Patrick Stewart. The actor couldn't quite remember which is which, according to Vulture. LOL!)
After a recent performance of No Man's Land starring the British besties, Washington picked McKellen's brain (or Stewart's) about drunk acting. "I was asking him about it, and he said, 'Well, I just curl up my feet, and I kind of roll back on my heels a little bit, and then you're always trying to get back on your toes.' You know?" Washington said.
"You see what I'm saying? Now, I don't do that the whole time I'm out there, but it's a starting place." Looking down at his feet, he laughed. "Now people will be looking at my toes!"
