Creatures of the Wind Fall 2015.

Shane Gabier and Chris Peters have never been the ones for straightforward fashion with apparent inspiration, and they definitely weren’t about to start down that road for Creatures of the Wind’s Fall collection. The duo abstains from fads and instead affirms their design prowess through influences that are shrouded in a coating of uncertainty — that way their legion of fans can interpret it for themselves. “Americana” was the title of their latest seasonal collection, though none of the signs blatantly pointed to that.

Stars channeled the classic theme on oversized mink stoles draped over a short-sleeve jacket, button-front coat, and cape all in khaki, while classic stripes were strewn across a leg-baring suit that could transition easily from work to play and a bell-sleeve, retro-inspired frock that flaunted more than a healthy helping of thigh.

The lineup then went on to re-conceptualize varied, yet iconic periods in the great style history of the good old U.S. of A. Button-accented turtlenecks and a pleat-detailed dress channeled the late 60’s, while flirty metallic dresses with a scallop print drew inspiration from just a few years later in the fashionable 70’s.

Floral jacquards strewn across high-neck mini dresses, high-waist pencil skirts, and v-neck tunics demonstrated that the timeless pattern can indeed be worn during the cold weather months. Python-accented slip-ons and boots anchored the ensembles in luxury and comfort.

There wasn’t any typical red, white, and blue fanfare as one might have thought with any Americana-inspired collection. The assortment was distinguished and skillful — refined yet functional and clearly derived from Gabier and Peters’ unique perspective.
