Rachel Comey Fall 2015.

The fashion industry is officially prepared to travel across the bridge to Brooklyn — whether for their apartment, food, shopping, or a fashion show. Rachel Comey’s collections have always been steeped in the artful, hipster vibe that pulses through the streets of the borough, thus it was no surprise that she staged her Fall collection fashion show (which also included a three-course dinner) at Dustin Yellin’s Pioneer Works in Red Hook.

It was pretty clear that the onlookers were in for a treat as style maven Tracee Ellis Ross served as host for the evening, trying on a British accent for the night. The aforementioned audience was also quite interesting with the likes of quirky actress Parker Posey and Monica Lewinsky in attendance.

The designs were befitting of the ambience — alluring and eye-catching, yet functional. As the season calls for, outerwear played centerstage with a thigh-grazing waxed leather jacket and boiled wool numbers in black and camel making an impact. Embellished beanies, slip-on pumps, leather over-the-knee boots, and handheld clutches accented the looks in as much variety and wearability as the modern-day woman desires.

Denim was a focus on a 70’s chic shearling-lined jacket, high-waist flares, a cropped pair with an unfinished hem, baseball jersey-inspired knee-length piece with rolled sleeves and oversized pockets, and an embroidered style that admittedly felt a bit juvenile. A cozy boatneck topper, knit-cuffed booties, a waxed leather jumpsuit, and fur-detailed mules provided the perfect complements.

Leather no longer has the edgy reputation it once had and the texture was used here on forgiving knee-length frocks, high-waist trousers with smocked waists, and culottes, — all in seasonally appropriate black and olive of course. Printed tie-neck blouses, chunky, fringe cardigans, suede pointed-toe booties, and colorful scarves grounded the ensembles in modernity.

The collection brimmed with a lot of overused textures and silhouettes, but managed to make them feel fresh and fun, and most importantly worthy of buying. Though the world might not be up for wearing Comey’s clogs, they’ll definitely latch onto this spirited lineup: who wants practicality anyway?
