Spring’s Top 5 Makeup Trends You Need To Know About

sm4Spring has sprung! Now that the weather is warmer, the days are longer, and the sun is shining, it’s once again time to shake up our makeup routines. Lucky us: the makeup for spring 2016 is gorgeous, young, and totally fun. I’ve rounded up the top five spring makeup trends to keep you looking fresh and on-point.

MATTE RED LIPSTICK
sm1
Red lips are in: The brighter, bolder, and more matte, the better. Get the velvety texture popular at shows like Jason Wu and Cushnie et Ochs by first applying concealer, such as (1) CoverGirl TRUBlend Fix Stick Concealer ($8) or (2) Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer ($27) to lips, then adding a matte red like (3) Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Red Carpet Red ($32) or (4) Revlon Matte Red Lipstick in Really Red ($8). Finally, pat a bit of powder such as (5) Almay Clear Complexion ($11) or (6) Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($38) on top for extra staying power.

BLUE EYESHADOW
sm2
Beautiful baby blues ruled the runway: Blue shadow and blue liner, that is. At Chanel and Marc Jacobs, blue was the new black, practically acting as a basic neutral. Two of our favorites are (7) Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow in Tenacious Teal ($6) and (8) Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Rich Navy ($25).

PEACHY CHEEKS
sm4
This season, makeup wavers wildly in between bold and natural, with nothing in-between. For cheeks, the trend is firmly in the latter category: spring cheeks are softly flushed, in shades of peachy-peach that highlight otherwise bare skin, as seen as Gucci and Michael Kors. To get the look, try (9) NARS blush in Orgasm ($30) or (10) Milani Baked Powder Blush in Dolce Pink ($8).

MIDNIGHT BLUE POLISH
sm5
Even though spring is usually associated with lighter and brighter, the hottest nail polish shade this season is unexpectedly dark: A deep, inky navy. Make it new for 2016 with the addition of sparkly glitter, such as (11) Christian Louboutin The Noirs Nail Colour in Bianca ($50) or (12) Essie in Starry Night ($9)

CRAZY LASHES
sm6
The past couple of seasons have seen bigger and bolder lashes—the kind that don’t exist in nature—making their mark on the runways, but nowhere was it bigger than this spring. Go for a double-dose of drama by combining a look-at-me mascara—like (13) Urban Decay Perversion Mascara ($22) or (14) L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt Mascara ($9)—with falsies applied on top, such as (15) Ardell Double Up Lashes Black 203 ($6) or (16) Esquido Amp It Up ($3
8).
