Solange Named Harvard Foundation’s Artist of the Year

Solange
Solange Knowles has more than just A Seat at the Table at Harvard. The superstar songstress has been named the Harvard Foundation’s Artist of the Year for 2018.

The distinction is a great honor that’s been given to few, including LL Cool J, Quincy Jones, Queen Latifah, Will Smith, Wyclef Jean, and Denzel Washington, to name a few. Last year’s honoree was actress Viola Davis.
Solange is being recognized on the heels of 2016’s critically-acclaimed album A Seat at the Table. Her website Saint Heron also notes that the soulful singer has been an advocate for “representation, political justice, and diversity within the arts.”
This is just the latest honor for Solange, who was also recognized with the American Express Impact Award at the 2017 Billboard Women in Music Awards. She was also named Glamour Magazine’s Woman of the Year in 2017, as per Billboard.
In December, Solange revealed that she was batting an autonomic disorder, which forced her to cancel a New Year’s Eve performance at the inaugural AfroPunk festival in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Solange will receive the honor at the Cultural Rhythms Festival in the Memorial Hall’s Sanders Theatre on March 3.
