Jennifer Lopez Joins Los Dinos for Beautiful Selena Quintanilla-Pérez Tribute at 2015 Billboard Latin Music Awards
The 2015 Billboard Latin Music Awards included one very bittersweet moment tonight.
Jennifer Lopez took the stage to perform the highly anticipated and absolutely amazing tribute to the late Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, the iconic Tejano singer who was murdered in 1995.
There was obvious nostalgia before the tribute even began, seeing as Lopez portrayed the singer in the biopic Selena back in 1997, but fans of the Mexican-American star would instantly be greeted with a number of aspects from J.Lo's performance that tugged at their heart and reminded them of the brunette beauty who was taken too soon.
With old footage of Selena playing in the background, Lopez opened the performance with Quintanilla's famous hit "Como La Flor" while wearing a dazzling crop top with jeweled pants under a sheer overlay.
As if hearing her belt those three first words wasn't enough to make you choke up, cameras revealed Lopez was joined on stage by Selena's siblings Suzette and A.B. and widow Chris Pérez, aka Los Dinos, playing in the band.
J.Lo transitioned to the upbeat "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" after ripping that sheer overlay off and rocking bedazzled pants and a jeweled crop top just like Selena would wear (one of three wardrobe changes J.Lo seamlessly changed into throughout the performance). She even started doing her iconic "washing machine" dance move. Sigh, it was all just so good.
Lopez continued serenading the audience with a few of Selena's big hits, like "Amor Prohibido," "I Could Fall In Love," and "No Me Queda Mas," but noticeably left out "Dreaming of You," which was a bit of a bummer.
She, along with Los Dinos and Selena's father Abraham, who joined the group at the end of the performance, got a bit emotional throughout the tribute, understandably so.
It was all just so beautiful. Quintanilla was murdered by the former president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldívar, at a Days Inn in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1995. She was 23 years old. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Grammy winner's death
