This High School Student Was Kicked Out of Prom for Wearing a Backless Dress

One mom is sticking up for her teenager after she was kicked out of her high school prom for wearing a backless dress.
According to Connie Briceno, her 18-year-old daughter Mireya Briceno completely followed all dress codes when she attended the dance wearing a blue dress with white polka-dots.
"The guidelines specifically said backless dresses are acceptable," the Michigan mom told Yahoo Parenting. "The rules stated the dress needed to adhere to the ‘fingertip' rule—meaning the dress had to hit below your fingertip when standing with her arms by your side."
She added, "They also said no midriff showing, which to me means stomach. And they said the words ‘backless dresses are acceptable.'"

After looking over the rules with her daughter, Connie agreed that the short-sleeved dress was perfect for the special event. Unfortunately, the school thought otherwise.
According to Connie, Mireya had no problem checking into the dance and even enjoyed the night with friends for about an hour. But once the vice principal approached the high school senior, Mireya was asked to leave for violating the dress code.
When contacted by Yahoo, Muskegon High School Principal Brad Perkins said he wasn't at liberty to discuss issues related to students over the phone and declined to comment. He did, however, share with FOX 17 that two other girls were sent home but returned in a different wardrobe.

He also claimed Mireya was wearing her date's jacket over her dress to check in but later took it off during the dance.
While Perkins stands by the school's dress code, Connie wishes the special night would have ended on a better note for her daughter.
"She asked what she can do, and I said ‘there's nothing you can do.' I told her to go to dinner with her boyfriend, and try to enjoy her evening," Connie said. "She was really upset. She has her boyfriend's prom in two weeks, but still, this was her prom. She missed out on a memorable time with her friends."
