Fendi Spring 2016 Ready-to-Wear
For Fendi’s Spring 2016 Ready-to-Wear Collection designed by none other than longtime creative director Karl Lagerfeld in partnership with Silvia Venturini Fendi, solid saturated colors reigned supreme. You could find a long coat in rich crimson, a braided mini-skirt in berry red, head-to-toe black leather dresses and a royal blue jacket over an angle-grazing aquamarine skirt. There was barely a print in sight, save a few sheer numbers. The women at Fendi were fearless and edgy; from the simple black swipe of eyeliner on their lids to their tousled, carefully thrown together hair styles.
For a brand that punches above its weight in accessories (remember the furry bag charms that retail for $1,050?), the presentation was chock full of new takes on the classic Peekaboo leather bag, snakeskin clutches with multi-color floral straps, and cat-shaped sunglasses. Leather found its way into most looks, in one incredible harness top in snakeskin and in stitching for pieces as varied as a coat, oversized pockets, and a pair of bloomers.
It wouldn’t be a Fendi show if there were not furs in tow. The haute couture house has had almost a century of history using exotic materials and held their first Haute Fourrure Collection this past July. Yet, the irony of showing fur for a Spring presentation speaks to the sort of customer base Fendi likely still fosters: aka the type of woman who desires to pull out a fur and rocks a full-length snakeskin coat with leather cinched pants just because.
The proportions were spot on! Some of my favorite pieces were these cropped sport jackets (in snakeskin and red) and pretty much all of the leather dresses. Model Binx Walton looked stunning in a strong black leather threaded panel dress. Lagerfeld and his team made leather look flexible and magical.
What do you think of Fendi’s Spring 2016 RTW Collection?
