Versace Spring 2016 Ready-to-Wear

Versace Spring 2016 RTW - 19
When you think of Donatella’s Versace, you quickly think of sexy, sultry, and confident women in control of their worlds. Versace’s Spring 2016 RTW presentation gave front-row viewers and standing room fanatics a fair share of that plus some. The collection was classic to the brand, yet entirely anew in its utilitarian stance. Let’s get into these looks!

The inspiration was evidently combat and this ethos manifested itself in quite a few ways. First and most obvious, the color and pattern choices: canvas, dark green, and camouflage were dominant elements within most pieces that ranged from blazers and shorts to scarves and even a backpack. Another element was in the footwear: wide-strapped sandals were worn with the ferocity of sky-high stilettos. The models moved easily (dare I say, they looked comfortable!) and that ease is definitely a shift from Versace of recent past.

The thigh-high slits in curve-hugging dresses still made an appearance, but those looks were balanced by separates and cropped bandage tops one might choose to wear everyday. Supermodel Joan Smalls rocked an all-black outfit that consisted of a sportswear jacket, bandage top, and tied-at-the-waist skirt that I’m pretty confident Rihanna would wear straight off the runway. There were touches of the Versace logo on the shoes and accessories, but for the most part, the pieces were devoid of being over-the-top and full of wild wearability.

These women have shown boldness and persistence in making it to the top of an incredibly cutthroat industry. Donatella needed such an army to make sure her empowering message rang loud and clear.
