1. Try not to smile–perfect your smize.
The reigning King and Queen of the Smize
Too cool for school? Too hot to trot? Yes, you got all dressed up to be there, and had your glam squad do it up! But that doesn’t mean you’re very happy to be there (reference Eddie Murphy from Coming to America). The key to conquering any carpet these days is to smize. Smize for your life! And if you’re caught smiling, catch yourself and go back to scowling.
2. Keep your hands down…if you can help it.
Gone are the days of the two hands behind the back, two hands on the hip, or even hands behind the head (Beyonce did a little bit of everything for the Dreamgirls London Premiere in 2007).
2015 requires a little less showmanship. Let your arms relax by your side, and unleash that sultry gaze!
3. If you must do something with your hands, the one hand on the hip trick is universally flattering.
The one hand on the hip pose works and looks good on everyone. Use it, flagrantly!
If you want to switch it up, pop your hand behind your back. Boom! Flawless.
She woke up like this
Two hands in front makes you look prim, pretty, and almost pensive. This is one of Uzo Aduba’s red carpet faves.
Janelle Monae also uses this trick a lot.
If you really want to go bold, cross your arms in front, to say “I mean business!!”
In my case, hands in front conceals problem areas. It works!
5. Play with your clothing.
Don’t know what to do with your hands? The world is your runway. Let those knife pleats billow in the wind.
This works particularly well if you have a dress with loads of fabric. Act like you’re in a wind machine and twirl, twirl, twirl!
Gorgeous!
6. Bend one knee or cross your feet in front
A pigeon toed stance can tarnish even the most flawless look.
Keep your legs in check by crossing your legs or making sure one knee is slightly bent.
7. Have fun!
While most celebs have posing down pat, it’s ok to break the mold and have a little fun! Jump for joy, kick one foot in the air, and laugh it up (but don’t laugh too hard– a camera catching you with your mouth wide open is never a good look.)
Otherwise, have a ball!
Those are a few tips I’ve gleaned from studying some of Tinseltown’s favorites.
Do you have anything to add?
